2012 - Committee Update & First Entrance Plantings

The Park & Garden Committee (aka Beautification Committee) was originally formed in 2011 by homeowners to improve the appearance of the community. The current focus is on the entrance planting and improving the park equipment and facilities.

At the April 2012 HOA Board meeting, the committee was formally recognized as a community committee, and assigned a $1,000 budget for 2012.

The current Committee Members are:

Spring/Summer and Winter 2011 plantings were undertaken by the committee.

In the Summer, BlackEyed Susans, Red and Blue Salvia and Red Begonias were planted to enhance the yellow Lantana, Palms and Bushes already in existence.  The only plant that did not do well were the Red Salvia's which were eaten by the bugs.

The Winter plantings included Kale, Cabbage, Pink Fountain Grass, Yellow, Purple and Strawberry Pansies.  The Kale, Cabbage and Purple Fountain Grasses did remarkably well but unfortunately the Pansies were eaten almost as soon as they were planted. The Kale and Cabbages colors are enhanced by the colder weather.  January was the best month for these plants as this Texas Winter was not really cold!

One of the frogs in the park was replaced.  One of the swings was replaced.  New sand has been added to the volley ball court.  All the park picnic tables have been pressure washed and stained.  One of the benches was completely broken and needs to be replaced this year.

Some good news is that the old oak tree that we thought may be dying seems to be recovering from the drought well.  The sprinkler system is being monitored after the Summer drought, and checked for leaks.

The first planting of 2012 has just taken place:

Some of the yellow BlackEyed Susans seeded themselves and were not pulled up as they did so well last year.  Red Begonias, White Vinca and 8 Pink Cordyline were added.
